I’m a Camera Guy Now — And I Guess This Is the Blog

So… this all started with a camera.
And a bit of a midlife wobble.
And maybe a vague need to be out of the house doing something that wasn’t work.
Welcome to I’m a Camera Guy Now, a blog, a brand, a mild identity crisis turned creative outlet.
If you’re here, you’ve probably seen a photo of a flower, a blurry fence, or a black-and-white cloud I got far too excited about. Maybe you’ve even watched me fumble through a YouTube video trying to explain what the AEL button does (still figuring that one out).
Why This? Why Now?
I’m a guy in my 40s, who recently accidentally decided to lean all the way in to cameras. Not just taking photos, but the whole experience, the gear, the lenses, the mistakes, the editing, the jargon, the smell of old film cameras, and the YouTube rabbit holes about things like “focal plane shutters” (no idea, still Googling). Not to mention the omission of truths with the wife about how much that lens cost!
This isn’t a tutorial blog. It’s not a review site (unless you count “sort of works, but light leaks” as a review). It’s more like: what happens when a normal guy decides to go all-in on photography, one mistake at a time.

What You Can Expect Here
Honest posts about learning photography from scratch (and what I got completely wrong)
Gear experiments, digital, film, drone, vintage, weird eBay finds
Adventures with my daughter Bow, who now refers to our photo trips as "faff”
Behind-the-scenes of my photo shoots (and failed attempts at them)
Black and white rambles, flower obsessions, and the occasional angry goose
Probably some emotional bonding with a 70-year-old German camera
You’ll also see content from Instagram, YouTube, and whatever other platforms I’m trying to figure out while pretending I understand hashtags and video transitions.
One Mistake at a Time
That’s the tagline, and honestly, it’s the vibe. I’m not here to pretend I’m an expert. I’m here because I'm not! And this stuff is fun, frustrating, and somehow deeply satisfying, especially when the photo turns out half-decent and you took it. That buzz? That’s the good bit.
So if you’re a fellow camera nerd, a casual scroller, someone thinking “maybe I should try photography,” or just here for the occasional chaos - welcome aboard.
New blog posts drop whenever something goes right, wrong, or hilariously sideways.
Catch you in the next one
